Lauren, our Programmes and Partnership manager, recently visited our partner Child Support Tanzania (CST) in Mbeya, Tanzania and managed to keep extremely busy in her 5 days there. It was her first time and she had a fantastic experience as she was given a full tour of the school, courtesy of Noelah, the Executive Director of CST. The tour allowed Lauren to meet the children benefitting as well as a number of key people whose hard work goes into making CST a success.
Specifically, Lauren was able to meet with Mr Kaijege, the Vice Chair of the Board, and discussed key ideas for the coming year and longer term plans. Lauren also had productive meetings with two of the trustees, Mr Kunzugala and Mr Kapa, learning about their continued contributions to CST and their visions for the foreseeable future. Even with all of this Lauren also managed to squeeze in a exciting initial meeting with Pepsi, discussing potential opportunities for them to support CST and their fantastic work.
A highlight for Lauren was visiting the income generation projects that are becoming increasingly successful. In particular the workshop is an unmitigated success through the use of Paper Based Technology (PBT) in producing furniture, toys and other household objects. In fact the project has been so successful CST are now planning to expand into a textiles workshop as well, which gives a lot of hope for continued sustainability in the future.
